I began Zen practice in 2009. Growing up, attended church on Sunday; read the Bible cover-to-cover as an adult. Explored several religious traditions while living and working in Canada, and the tradition that resonated with me the most was Zen Buddhism.
When I lived and worked in California, had the opportunity to explore many different Buddhist traditions, but ultimately felt most supported by the (Japanese) Soto Zen tradition.
My practice today consists of morning meditation, chanting the Heart Sutra (impermanence teaching), and bowing (humility practice). I sewed a rakusu (Buddhist robe), and received the Buddhist precepts in 2015. I also lived and worked at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center for six months in 2020.
