Garth Monroe served as CFO in the private equity, biotech industry for fifteen years, working in Houston, San Diego, and Ottawa Canada; he also served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

MBA from University of Virginia; graduated summa cum laude from University of Connecticut.

Volunteered for more than twenty years, including Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and Houston Hospice Texas Medical Center.

Practiced Zen Buddhism for more than fifteen years, including Green Gulch Farm Zen Center.

Trained as an artisan bread baker at San Francisco Baking Institute, and apprenticed at Bellegarde Bakery in New Orleans; also studied classical music at University of Michigan.


A friend describes me as a truth-seeker; not sure that truth exists, not sure of anything. Another friend describes me with the Japanese term, unsui (雲水), itinerant monk, on pilgrimage, “to drift like clouds and flow like water,” without attachment, at home everywhere and nowhere.
